The item market shock in Counter-Strike 2 that emerged!
Counter-Strike 2 introduced a significant change by allowing players to craft higher level knives and gloves, which has not been seen as an entirely positive move for the game's economy and community, since there were multiple headlines claiming "billions lost". This update transformed the item economy heavily, enabling players to use the Trade Up Contract to exchange five Covert skins for a knife or a pair of gloves, marking the first time these items have actually been craftable instead of locked behind case openings or expensive market purchases.
Following the update on October 23rd 2025, the CS2 Steam Community Market reacted quickly, with item listings increasing and prices for knives and some rare skins dropping significantly. Early estimates claimed a temporary market loss of somewhere between 1.5$ to 2$ billion; however, this figure only reflected the listed value of skins, not the actual losses or transactions. In recent years the CS2 item market had been seen as overinflated, particularly concerning the knives category.
Casual players and traders have generally benefited from this update because it lowered entry prices for knives, increased market liquidity and expanded on the choice for in-game items. Collectors may find the value of some their rare items is decreasing, but their primary goal is usually showcasing rare items rather than making profits. The group most negatively affected includes the so-called large investors or "whales" who previously thrived on inflated prices and speculative trading, as their stockpile valuations have sharply declined.
Some commentators rushed to state that the CS2 skin market had lost around $1.5 billion in one day, which was based on a mark-to-market snapshot of listed items rather than actual money. This figure does not consider that many listings are never sold and do not reflect the true market conditions. The knife market has been inflated for years due to speculative trading tactics, meaning the sudden rule change led to a rapid correction of inflated prices.
The latest Valve update appears to be an effort to rejuvenate the market, as the previous scarcity of knives left prices high and participation on the low among most players. By enabling such trade-ups, Valve is expected to increase market activity and create true price discovery, leading to more active listings and transactions, which also benefits Valve in terms of fee revenue.
Additionally, this update could be considered as an effort to draw back players from engaging with third-party markets where transactions were slipping away from the oversight of Valve. Making knives and gloves craftable is likely to decrease the allure of such external platforms, which are often linked to possible scams and illegal activities. Moreover, this move may also serve to minimize the gambling aspect associated with acquiring desired items, as traditionally these were obtained through randomized case openings.
The decision of Valve to make knives and gloves craftable is a strategic aim to enhance more player participation, create a healthier market environment and possibly mitigate issues related to external trade and gambling, ultimately contributing to the long-term viability of Counter-Strike 2.
Windows 10 support has ended on October 14th with an ESU available for 30$
In the OS department, Microsoft ended their free support for Windows 10 on October 14th 2025, meaning that the Home, Pro and Education editions would no longer receive security updates or any bug fixes. However, users can buy a Consumer Extended Security Update (ESU) for 30$ per device for a year until October 13th 2026, which would provide further security updates. This ESU license could cover for up to 10 devices.
Many gamers are still using Windows 10, with about a third of Steam users currently on this version, but the gaming industry is rapidly shifting towards Windows 11.
Although most apps and games would still be working fine on Windows 10, the newest titles are increasingly requiring Windows 11 as their primary Operational System. Notably, Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix and games like Monster Hunter by Capcom no longer support Windows 10 after the cutoff date. Nvidia would continue to provide driver support for Windows 10 until October 2026 and then will move to quarterly security updates until 2029.
Windows 11 has strict hardware requirements, such as TPM 2.0 and newer CPUs, preventing many Windows 10 PCs from upgrading. By September 2025, Windows 11 usage surged to 66.08% on Steam, while Windows 10 was at 33.74%. This transition is expected to drive the PC gaming hardware market to $44.5 billion by the end of 2025. Additionally, Microsoft is implementing forced installations of certain apps on eligible PCs that have Microsoft 365 desktop applications.
In summary, with the end of Windows 10 support, users are encouraged to consider upgrading to Windows 11 as new software releases would increasingly require it.
With this we conclude our monthly recap and begin looking at the November news that would capture our attention! Stay tuned for more interesting news stories, gaming reviews, and promotions as we begin our ride towards the end of the year!
