DATE A LIVE is a popular light novel series from Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. It has been adapted into a TV anime series of the same name, the fifth and most recent installment—DATE A LIVE V—airing in April 2024.
This next-generation boy-meets-girl story, written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, has earned immense popularity both in Japan and overseas, with over six million copies sold worldwide.
The series begins thirty years after Earth becomes plagued by spacequakes—calamities triggered by the emergence of mysterious entities known as Spirits. One day, an ordinary student named Shido Itsuka encounters a Spirit disillusioned with humanity. Shido’s sister, Kotori, reveals that he possesses a unique ability: he can seal a Spirit’s powers away.
However, the method is unexpected — to seal a Spirit’s powers, Shido must date her and make her fall in love with him.
Determined to protect the world and save the Spirits, Shido resolutely faces each challenge head-on with sincerity and courage.
Story
A newly emergent Spirit named Natsumi finds herself targeted by Deus Ex Machina Industry. Shido steps in to defend her and succeeds in sealing her powers.
Following the transformation and inversion caused by Origami, Shido reshapes the world to protect it and eventually seals Origami as well.
Though threats may still exist, Shido and his friends enjoy the peace they’ve fought so hard to secure.
After an ordinary evening spent with friends, Shido has a strange dream—a mysterious voice calls to him from the shadows. The next morning, he discovers a peculiar container with a snake motif beneath his pillow.
