Ghost Pirate Problems in Titans of the Tide

Ghost Pirate Problems in Titans of the Tide

The hilarious adventures of the beloved characters in the SpongeBob SquarePants series keep on unfolding to their next chapters in the upcoming game in the franchise developed by Purple Lamp and published from THQ Nordic. The SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide release date is set for 18.11.25 for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the Windows PC platforms and it is time to give this one gem some very well-deserved attention in the spotlight.

For this review we are going to focus on the story, gameplay features, and various improvements the devs implemented, as well as the available editions and pre-order deals for the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Steam release that you absolutely know of and should check out before it drops! We are definitely in SpongeBob SquarePants hype season as it is going to deliver us both an upcoming gaming title and a full-blown movie to enjoy in December, since The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants and the game we are focusing on today do share a universe and many of the characters appear in both of them!

Ready to dive in deep matey? So are we, let’s jump the plank into the tides together then! Arghh!

The Ongoing SpongeBob SquarePants Series of Hits and Strikes in the Gaming Legacy!

The SpongeBob SquarePants series has always stood out as a bit more prominent among the other Nickelodeon games by having some quite the good entries in the series, which were for the most part all fine and dandy. Not many have managed to reach success better than 2003’s SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, as for most of the fans, it has been the perfectly balanced blend between care for the original source material and characters, mixed with a great platformer experience in its own quirky way.

Many orbits around the Sun later, the studio Purple Lamp delivered a more modern remake of the title for newer generations of gaming consoles and fans alike, with SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated back in 2020. After that the studio decided to build upon the legacy with a whole brand-new game entry with SpongeBob SquarePants:The Cosmic Shake three years later. They were both delightful throwbacks to a long-gone time in the PS2 era, however, despite its best intentions, The Cosmic Shake was not quite able to soothe the fans’ thirst in the same way as Battle for Bikini Bottom did prior to that, with a relatively linear design and simpler platforming setups that were still nice, but perhaps just a bit lacking the vibe.

Purple Lamp has definitely gotten well-aware of the fan feedback and during Gamescom 2025, they officially presented the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide video game, which was carefully named in its inception as project “Ghost” in order to protect it from reaching any unwanted publicity, and clearly demonstrated that the development team has very much understood all of the previous criticism targeted at SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide was initially teased almost a year ago, on Halloween 2024, during the end of a promotional video for the first two SpongeBob games published by THQ Nordic. In spite of their efforts to prevent any informational infiltration, after a series of leaks and rumors on 02.10.2025, it was announced that there would be a demo of the game, which would be playable during the Steam Next Fest event. The SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide demo became available on 13.10.2025, on the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles and a bit later on 28.10.2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first SpongeBob SquarePants appearance on the newest platform. We are currently headed for the complete release of the game and cannot wait to check out everything that it has to offer!

Get To Experience a Completely New Ghostly Story with Multiple Added Improvements

First of all, we should definitely point out to the fact that it seems like everything from the overall gameplay feel through the level designs and all the way to the visuals and humor are much better this time, allowing for Titans of the Tide to truly have the chance of being the very much desired franchise successor we have all been eagerly waiting for. So, get ready to be both incredibly impressed and slightly scared at the same time by all of the major improvements, as this entry in the franchise promises a much more polished experience and gameplay features!

The storyline depicts the rise of a conflict, (due to a massive clash of interests, of course) between the Flying Dutchman and King Neptune, thus some very ghostly mayhem has been unleashed all around Bikini Bottom. How do you even begin to tackle the two grandest egos in the Seven Seas as they are clashing with each other and no reconciliation of differences seems to be on the horizon? SpongeBob and Patrick, must gather enough bravery and go on this risky adventure in complete unison, and for this to really happen, they would need to combine each of their unique skills in order to save their land from total ghostification!

Titans Of the Tide Offers a Vast World to Test Out SpongeBob and Patrick’s New Skills

In this entry of the popular Nickelodeon games franchise, you would be able to seamlessly switch between SpongeBob and Patrick and it all comes packed in the neat “Ghosting” mechanic, where you control the active character in their body, while the other one turns into a ghost version of themselves, thanks to the BFF rings that allow for this to happen. This way you would be able to combine the unique platforming skills available to both characters (with some jumps requiring you to switch between the duo in the middle of the jump in order to to perform certain combos) and master the brand-new skills included in the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide gameplay such as assists, grappling and burrowing.

Titans of the Tide is absolutely trying to move the series to the next level by introducing quite a few new mechanics for both the puzzles and platforming components. The devs have also heavily stressed that Patrick is now just as equipped with his personal abilities just like SpongeBob is, so making the right skill combinations between them is actually a great upgrade in the series. Both characters are better balanced as they have the same number of personal skills and a unique ability that allows them to ride on water.

Purple Lamp has the ambition to also improve upon the difficulty level as well, so we could probably place the game between Battle for Bikini Island and Cosmic Shake in that aspect, since they really want to balance the upcoming title in a way to be easy enough for young players, but still put at least a few more difficult parts for those looking for greater challenge.

This is where the new improved design and mechanics come into play as there would be multiple secret ways and areas that are harder to reach. These more difficult pathways are going to require you to think about the sets of abilities you have and the ways in which you are going to use them together in order to get to new places, and actually managing to apply them effectively enough. By using such methods on the title, there is still the option for a far more traditional and simpler trajectory for younger players to enjoy, but also the not so linear and much more challenging (but also very rewarding) way for the more seasoned players, seeking to fully experience the gameplay by exploiting the new types of mechanics to their maximum capacity.

In other words, there are multiple ways to play this title because you can easily switch between SpongeBob and Patrick at any point and the level design becomes significantly more open to deeper exploration.

Discover Bikini Bottom's Most Famous Locations in a New Way!

Experience the new ghostly storyline that starts at the Bikini Bottom Restaurants acting as an introduction tutorial level that is split in two sections, the first of which is mainly focused on SpongeBob as he is in preparation for the “Extra Special Offer“ day at the Krusty Krab. The second part of the level is dedicated to Patrick and learning more about his playstyle, as he is headed to the restaurant to meetup with his best friend. An interesting detail might be that If by any chance the player somehow manages to glitch out of bounds in the Bikini Bottom Restaurants level and reaches SpongeBob’s house in the background, they can find a hidden message behind the house left by the devs, but that is a secret, so please do not tell it to anyone!

Then there is the Floating Patty that represents the hub world for the game since there the characters are able to travel across the rest of the levels and use it for navigation. As for the other level types we know of Goldfish Island, which is the supposed location of the Flying Dutchman and a hidden treasure that could be obtained, but all that is according to the words of Captain Goldie, so SpongeBob and Patrick need to check the validity of the claim and try to discover it.

You would have the chance to explore the other interesting worlds and iconic locations such as Mount Bikini, Atlantis City as well as Neptune’s Palace, where you would have to stand up against various bosses in the likes of the Flying Dutchman, Hibernation Sandy and even King Neptune himself. This entry also marks the second appearance in a console video game for Princess Mindy since The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie video game, as well as her fifth appearance in the whole franchise with her in-person cameo in the main series episode "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout" and in “SpongeBob Adventures: In a Jam!”, as well as having a unit dedicated to her in the SpongeBob Tower Defense game.

The stages are abundant with a variety of moving parts and elements, they definitely seem very lively compared to the levels in previous entries of the SpongeBob franchise, since the team at Purple Lamp has given great attention to detail and listened to the feedback from fans during the development of the title.

The Whole Original Cast Is Included in the Project, But So Are Multiple Localization Options

Speaking of attention to detail, the whole original cast of the show has been brought together to fully voice the entire storyline including the guest appearance by David Hasselhoff to reprise his fascinating singing skills, since the main series episode "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout”. It all sounds extra authentic and definitely remains loyal to the original source material.

When it comes to narration, it is definitely important to point out that the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide gameplay would allow for 13 language localizations including: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese - Brazil, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Traditional Chinese and LATAM Spanish, as well as a total of 6 dubbed versions in English, French, German, Portuguese - Brazil, Japanese and LATAM Spanish so hopefully the whole international fan base community is pleased with the quality of this upcoming game.

Game Editions, Pre-Order Offers and Special Bonuses for the Game

If you decide to obtain the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide pre-order bonus, you would be able to unlock the two quite “natural” player costumes funnily named: Butt Flap Bob and Birthday Suit Patrick!

Apart from the regular version of the game there would also be the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Ghostly Digital Edition, which includes the Tidal Season Pass, Titans of the Tide: Soundtrack and as for the physical Ghostly Edition version of the title, there would be special bonuses such as the golden spatula keychain, 5 lenticular cards, a Flying Dutchman sew-on patch, a steelbook, the Tidal Season Pass, and the Natural Costume Pack.

When it comes to information about The Tidal Season Pass, it is a compilation of four distinct DLCs, which consist of the following content:

- The "Plankton's Portal Challenge DLC" which adds a set of exclusive Plankton’s Portal Challenge levels that are inspired and based on SpongeBob's Dream, from Battle for Bikini Bottom.

- The "Search for SquarePants DLC" which introduces new Plankton’s Portal Challenge levels that are coming directly from the upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.

- The "Search for SquarePants Costume Pack" coming with four different costume options; Swashbuckler SpongeBob, Pirate Patrick, Two-Eyed Patrick, and DutchBob. Along with a smaller version of the DutchBob costume specially designed for SpongeBob’s in-game ghost form.

- The "Double Deluxe Costume Pack" has a range of four additional costumes; BrainBob, Dirty Dan, The Real Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry and this time there is a Slammy Star costume designed for Patrick’s ghost form.

With all of this said, we conclude the SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide review and hope that you enjoyed reading about it to the very end! You are truly awesome and we will continue to bring you the most interesting news, game reviews, and promotions as always, so be sure to stay tuned for more exciting things in the coming weeks!
