Are You Ready to End the War of Light and Darkness?
Destiny 2 has consistently been among the most active live service video games throughout the years, players currently embark in the Lightfall DLC seasons, but there are multiple exciting things for the franchise in the coming months, so let’s have a look at the latest updates around Destiny 2: The Final Shape, the next major expansion for Bungie's awesome first-person shooter available on PS5, PS4, Xbox, and PC.
Ever since it got initially released in August 2017, the story in Destiny 2 managed to grow in scale and thrill, a tendency that has also continued steadily during the Lightfall expansion year. The current “The Light and Darkness Saga” plotline has been developed for almost a decade now and is said to finish with the upcoming DLC, titled The Final Shape. Imagine that, the events from all the previous chapters would finally be completed with an epic conclusion! But this is only the first saga for the franchise and there would possibly be new ones in the future as well!
Last year however there was an announcement that there would be a delay for the Destiny 2 expansion title, pushing the release with almost 4 whole months from February 27th all the way to June. Bungie has announced that this move is because it would give them the very much needed time required to “deliver an even bigger and bolder vision” that is definitely going to be “remembered and treasured for years to come.”
This is why we decided to compile everything that is important to know about the game up to now in a single article before the Destiny 2: The Final Shape release date arrives on 04.06.24. We are going to go through different aspects of the title such as story details, new supers, game features and much more.
Are you ready to join us on this stellar journey and finally end the war of Light and Darkness? Let us begin, shall we?
What is coming up next for Destiny 2?
The ongoing Season of the Wish has been progressing very smoothly for players with great raid drops and even though it may not have been the most outstanding episode up to now contentwise, however the gameplay quality has been truly awesome and performing up to par. We could very much say Destiny 2 is now fully heading up for the final DLC in the Light and Darkness Saga!
On the 9th of April 2024 there is going to be a new content update called ‘Destiny 2: Into the Light’ that is most probably going to act as Bungie’s way to lead players in to The Final Shape. We could certainly expect to get at the very least a few new game missions introduced, as well as a possible test run for some of the new powers, weapons, and armor.
May 2024 is going to bring us three brand new PvP maps to enjoy and practice on while we are waiting for the upcoming major expansion, so that would also be very much welcomed with glee by the fandom.
Depending on what class you are main you would really need to make sure to get and maintain your skills in the best of shape with the latest Destiny 2 Titan, Warlock and Hunter builds in order to prepare yourself for the enemies and obstacles that are awaiting you in The Final Shape DLC.
What can you expect from the Destiny 2: The Final Shape story?
As you find eternity being torn apart, the echoes with the deeds of our past become clearer and clearer, would you be able to confront your own oblivion and face up to the Witness!?
The Final Shape is coming – reality is getting calcified in a twisted design by the Witness. Follow the Witness on possibly the most dangerous journey into the heart of the Traveler and behold what lies within, rally with the Vanguard, and do your best to end the War of Light and Darkness. Experience the captivating adventure through the difficult terrain that actually bends time and space itself.
On The Final Shape showcase event, Bungie shared a bit more details about the narrative, which is going to really focus on The Traveler - the mysterious entity that has always been present in the Destiny franchise as an integral part of the story. The Final Shape DLC would move that one step forward, as The Traveler asks for your help as The Witness exploits its power to cause horrific acts.
The Destiny 2: The Final Shape Standard edition is going to include the new DLC story campaign, events and activities to complete, as well as three brand new Supers to use, an unexplored new destination: The Pale Heart, new weapons and armor to obtain, and also the first of three Episodes in the year of The Final Shape. Presented as the new storytelling approach - Episodes are going to replace the current Seasons and content update format for Destiny 2 from now on. Let us discuss this concept a bit further:
Presenting a completely new format with Episodes
Starting in 2024, Destiny 2 is planning to release three Episodes. The Episodes would have three Acts, with a new Act releasing every six weeks and it is going to have a new part of the storyline that contains specific additional content – new quests, activities, weapons, artifact mods and many other rewards that players could obtain more often than previous Destiny 2 Seasons.
There are plans for three separate episodes, respectively titled Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy. Each of them would have a standalone story told in three separate acts, and each act is going to explore the “aftermath and fallout of the events of the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga.”
New activities to take part in and reap the benefits
The Destiny 2: The Final Shape gameplay would offer you the option to conquer new challenges on the Guardian’s perilous journey, including a new raid where Guardians will finally confront the Witness. With The Final Shape Dungeon Key, a new set of challenges would await the Annual Pass owners. Unlock two new dungeons that are going to be released during the year of The Final Shape.
Reach a new destination and discover what it holds for you
Fans would have the opportunity to explore a completely new destination that is named The Pale Heart, which is actually located in The Traveler. This place is going to bring nostalgic memories and possible callbacks from all over the history of the Light and Darkness Saga! As this is the first linear destination in Destiny history, The Pale Heart would also gradually evolve as you go further and further; there would also be unforeseen encounters and possible memories returning from the past to haunt you!
The Pale Heart has a new enemy type named Subjugators, creatures that are able to use Stasis and Strand powers.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape supers
Defeating the Witness will require untold power. Arc Hunters, Void Titans, and Solar Warlocks; master a new Super within your arsenal and confront oblivion.
The Final Shape shall offer players a set of three new Super abilities and Aspects – Void for Titans, Solar for Warlocks, and Arc for Hunters – as well as new exotic weapons, but also bringing back some classic weapons from Destiny 1. Let’s have a more precise overview of them:
Twilight Arsenal – Titan
Twilight Arsenal is a Void Super for Titans that allows them to cut and slash opponents with ease. The Titan uses three Void axes that pull enemies in and then explode with a mighty blast, these weapons can be picked up and used to brutally chop weakened enemies.
The newest Void Aspect for Titans is Unbreakable, it allows players to consume a grenade in order to get a shield that would block any incoming damage and is able to absorb a limited amount of attack hits. Once the absorbed damage has been reached a certain point, the shield could be released and thus dealing massive damage to anything around you.
With the blades cutting and slashing through the air honed by the Void you would be able to strike your foes down and continue any further attack ruthlessly.
Storm's Edge – Hunter
Hunters are now becoming flying thunder gods with the immense power of the Storm's Edge Super, as they would be able to summon an Arc-energy dagger that allows them to teleport them forward in just a glimpse.
Each time they materialize back, they would perform a deadly whirlwind attack. It can be executed three times in a row and makes the Hunter incredibly mobile and agile.
The Ascension Aspect adds even more aerial options, by using this aspect, Hunters are able to consume their class ability and thrust themselves upwards to significantly damage and crush nearby enemies, what’s more is that nearby teammates would also receive an Amplified buff.
With a dagger in hand, you become the Arc flashing in the darkness; deliver the piercing edge of the storm and your enemies would simply not be able to escape it.
Song of Flame – Warlock
Warlocks are also getting a new Solar Super that could be a very exciting replacement for the ones up to now. Song of Flame allows Warlocks to enter a Radiant state, it overcharges their close-range melee abilities, and their grenade becomes a sentient Spirit of Flame that would navigate towards nearby enemies and ignite near them.
With the added Hellion Aspect, Warlocks would be able to activate their class ability and summon a Solar Soul launching flaming mortars at distant foes, turning them to ashes in no time.
Unleash the power of your inner phoenix with each and every attack. Buff your weapons, allies, and harness the living Solar flame to burn away everything in your path.
