Destiny 2: Year of Prophecy - A Guardian’s Guide to the Unknown

Recently it was announced by the Destiny 2 Team that Destiny 2: The Year of Prophecy would initiate very soon marked by the launch of its first expected expansion. The Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate release is going to become available on 15th of June 2025 and then it would be followed by lots of other exciting updates and further developments in the second DLC – Destiny 2: Renegades release, which is scheduled for the winter of this year. There were even mentions of two more future expansions that the studio has prepared, namely Destiny 2: Shattered Cycle and Destiny 2: The Alchemist.

All of this as well as many other topics were covered in a special reveal stream by Bungie, so we decided to go through them in case you have missed it and might need to be informed about what the Fate Saga has prepared for us from the very beginning of its several years long projection.

WHAT DO WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE YEAR OF PROPHECY ROADMAP

In the Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate gameplay and storyline you are getting an invitation to be present on a completely new location at a very specific moment in time, but we would dive into more detail about that in a bit. What is more important right now are upcoming Destiny 2 DLCs and the multiple planned updates to the various game systems you may have awaited for years now, and you should be sure that they are coming with the sole purpose of completely renewing how the Destiny 2 gameplay appeals to both groups of newer and veteran players. 

Here is a list of what known updates and expansions lay ahead with more specifics for the moment of their release or overall availability:

Rite of the Nine - May 6 -  Available for all (Already live and running)

The new era that is just merely starting with the massive Destiny 2: The Year of Prophecy planned cycle is going to function at a bit of a different pace, each year in the Fate Saga arc is going to feature four different major content additions and/or updates to the franchise: 2 of them are going to be paid expansions with campaigns and the other 2 would typically introduce many awesome system updates which would be made available to all players of the game. 

All of these major updates are going to introduce new exciting activities, dangerous missions, powerful gear and exclusive rewards, including modifiers, various deadly weapons and so much more. What may actually be the best part about such a scheduled routine is that this new type of structure does not actually require paid subscription access to all of the seasonal activities, thus ensuring that all players could get a proper experience of how the game world is evolving over time. 

You are going to have the opportunity to experience a year that is full of exploration and adventure possibilities with the Destiny 2: Year of Prophecy Edition which features the first two upcoming expansions – Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate as well as Destiny 2: Renegades – and join in the ranks of the Guardians from the very start of an entirely new saga in the Destiny universe. Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate sets the start of the next saga, the Fate Saga, so let’s have a better overview of what awaits us this summer!

RITE OF THE NINE IS ALREADY LIVE AND RUNNING

The studio has already launched the Destiny 2 Update 8.2.6, which includes many important changes to the main abilities and weapon options, an improved sandbox experience along with a totally new set of activities to immerse yourselves in already available to all players as well as the Rite of the Nine.

Rite of the Nine offers a fresh new feel to dungeon diving for both the more seasoned players and the ones that are stepping into them for the very first time. This event features the Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher and Ghosts of the Deep dungeons types and introduces some more unique twists to already familiar encounters, including dungeon weapons that have a striking Nine-inspired designer look. 

With the launch of these new activities and modes, dungeoneers could potentially earn some of the latest Bungie Rewards. Complete as many Titles and Triumphs you can in order to earn cool rewards from the newest product assortment inclusions the studio has to offer.

Before diving into the newest DLCs the Guardians would have to find their way back to Orin, the mysterious Emissary figure of the even more shrouded in mystery creatures - The Nine, and by doing so to tie in all loose ends and to put a finish to the narrative chapter until Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate release arrives and becomes available in the middle of this year.

DESTINY 2: THE EDGE OF FATE ARRIVES JULY 15 2025 WITH A BLAST THROUGH SPACE AND TIME

As we already mentioned earlier your adventure would begin with a mysterious invitation for only the select Guardians. Discover the completely new world of Kepler where you would get to uncover all of the powerful new weapons and armor types. Master to perfection the brand new never-before-seen abilities available, all while you challenge yourself and your team across the great new destinations the team has prepared for you.  There would also be a new raid and dungeon to explore and obtain gear from. The Guardian’s future is getting decided by you now as new conflicts arise and the deep revelations keep on coming.

Finally, The Nine are actually going to be properly introduced and would play a crucial role in this newest era of the Destiny franchise. These mysterious and incredibly powerful beings have existed much before the Traveler ever showed up in the Sol System, and it is their secretive existence that allows for the world we know of in-game today. After so many years of legends and rumors, the time has finally come to meet these mighty mythical beings personally.

Since Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is merely the beginning of a much longer journey, the new storyline would take its time to properly develop in the necessary detail, but that would probably leave you with more unanswered questions than you had at the start. Every next expansion is going to clearly answer some of these questions at least to some extent, so getting the next chapters every few months would allow the studio to deliver on these promised beats at a much faster pace than they could before.

A COMPLETELY NEW COSMIC DESTINATION AWAITS YOU: KEPLER

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is taking place on Kepler, a totally new destination with a unique aesthetic and environments inspired by the labyrnithian puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges that Destiny 2’s dungeons had to offer and a destination design which does offer and even encourage deeper exploration, mysteries and discoveries. There would alsoe be new enemy types, weapons, gear and world-specific abilities that are awaiting those Guardians that are brave enough to dive into the secrets of this world on the edge of the Sol System.

One of the main features of Kepler is the available dark matter energy; it would be the fuel that powers the newly obtained abilities you get. The Matterspark ability is going to grant Guardians the exceptional ability to bind themselves to dark matter in order to change forms, so that they are then able to go through more difficult and tighter spaces, jump and dash across greater distances when traversing the rough and unwelcoming terrain and literally become a rolling force of destruction if need be.

Some of the other more additional abilities include the new Relocator Cannon, which primarily uses dark matter tech in order to teleport players across different locations as well as the Mattermorph, which would allow Guardians to greatly manipulate matter in their direct surroundings and environment, this is going to become possible by exploiting the combined raw power of dark matter and various strands. 

Get ready for lots of intense action, complex level design, a great variety of side quests that you could do apart from the main storyline and an overall incredible experience that takes you one step closer to all the answers you have been seeking for so long!

WELCOME TO THE PORTAL GUARDIAN, ARE YOU READY TO EXPLORE THE UNKNOWN?

In addition to the Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion itself on 15th of July, there would be another major set of core gameplay innovations that are going to become available to all players that should be discussed. 

One of the main ones among these would be the Portal, a brand-new activity selection screen that would offer players instant access to a vast range of activities that are going to be tailored to different playstyles so that it is made easier than ever for players to find their next exciting adventure.

Players of the game would now be able to select between the various Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops missions with much more ease. These newly introduced sets of Ops reinforce the intense fireteam action and a bit longer type of cooperative content, while the Solo Ops activities are specially designed for the players who want shorter and quicker 10-minute solo adventure types of missions, without the need for a whole fireteam to handle the situation at hand.

In addition to this, players could adjust the activities to better match their desired Destiny 2 gameplay and the specific loot rewards they are pursuing after. There are going to be 50 all-new modifiers added to the game, which would allow for greater gameplay customization and offer tougher challenges for players, while the curated activity rotations are going to ensure there is always a new conquest to obtain.

INTRODUCING ARMOR 3.0 AND AN IMPROVED TIERING SYSTEM

Both the armor and gear systems are getting improvements in order to create more interesting opportunities for crafting and buildmaking. Players would experience newly set bonuses, a full rework of character statistics and armor that would now start with full energy capacity.

The new Armor 3.0 system is introducing systems to further power-up your playstyle with new metrics and stats, like the one that would increase weapon damage output levels, as well as stronger battle effects to the ones you already know. You would only have to boost them up to 200 points in order to obtain them. In some cases if you wear two or more pieces of a given set, you may be able to push your favorite builds to even greater properties with the inclusion of special set bonuses.

Then on top of that comes the new tier system for both your weapons and armor items. Each of the five newly-introduced tiers is going to offer a better stats split, different types of perks and more advantageous bonus mechanics. In order to earn the best gear possible with the highest tier ranking, you would have to make it through some of the most challenging activities available. The better and higher tiered equipment you manage to get, the more challenging levels you would be able to handle with more ease.

Oh, one last thing before we move on to the next Destiny 2: Renegades DLC, what is a better place to test all of your new gear and tech than a designated shooting range? This is coming too, three weeks after Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate steam release becomes available live: it is going to be a permanent testing area and in which you can spawn with your whole raid group so that you are able to test the damage you inflict onto all kinds of enemies, from easiest ones to the stronger bosses with no ammo restrictions at all! How cool is that?

THE NEXT MAJOR CHAPTER IN THE DESTINY 2 ROADMAP - RENEGADES IS COMING THIS DECEMBER 

At the recent Destiny 2: Edge of Fate reveal event, it was also announced and confirmed that Destiny 2: Renegades Steam release is going to become available as soon as this winter. The second expansion in the Year of Prophecy is scheduled for release on December 2, 2025. It seems that it would be much more heavily inspired by the legendary Star Wars universe, as in Renegades the studio manages to merge Destiny’s very own and distinctive storytelling concepts as well as the main gameplay mechanics with some of the more prominent themes and elements that have been typical for one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises to have ever existed.

The short reveal featured a cinematic teaser trailer that was showcasing the Renegades, promising that this chapter would be a definitive Destiny expansion with a narrative that goes even deeper into the Fate Saga. The Destiny 2: Renegades gameplay would most likely introduce even more characters, innovative activities and further evolve the mechanics that would surely be crafted in such a manner so that they surprise and delight players at the same time.

It still does not have that much information regarding the plot direction and specific details, but there would surely be more updates as time passes and nears the Destiny 2: Renegades release date in December, so we are going to keep you posted when there are new updates.
